Surprise visitors

My second week of class has been much better than the first week because I have been able to pay better attention and we have had less homework, thankfully. Monday night I went to Dunkin Donuts with my host sisters to buy doughnuts for the whole family. I also watched part of Juno in English with Spanish subtites with my cuñado (which means brother-in-law). The subtitles were really awful and did not capture the meaning of all the slang that Juno uses, so I kept having to explain to Juan Carlos what was really going on. Juan Carlos is great to hang out with because he always teaches me about Peruvian culture or politics or bad words. Haha. :-)

Life in Peru is always full of surprises. Yesterday, I was in the house by myself studying when the doorbell rang. I thought that it was someone in my family coming home so I got up to answer it, but when I opened the door, I did not recognize that people in front of me. They were an older couple and a girl who looked upper 20s. I told them that no one was home except me and they seemed surprised, but they said they would come in and wait, and just like that they walked into the living room and sat down. I guess I figured that strangers would not just walk into a house uninvited, but they still had not told me how they were related to my family. Before these visitor came, I had been talking to Juan Carlos on messenger and I was about to tell him that there were visitors in the house when the visitors began talking about calling Juan Carlos, so I told them that I was talking to him on the computer. They asked me to tell him that his parents and sister were at the house to see him. Mystery solved: they were my host sister's inlaws. For the next 20 or so minutes, I sat in the living room with these three Peruvians who I had just met and attempted to make conversation, which actually went pretty well. Although I generally consider myself someone who likes to plan ahead, I am very much enjoying the randomness of life here. It is definitely far from boring :-)

I promised pictures from the weekend, so here they are:

My host father Abraham, my host mother Rosa, my host sister Eveline, and her son Diego
This was on our excursion to Lurín where we ate anticuchos and picarrones.

My family wanted to take a picture of me eating the anticuchos, haha :-)

This is the view from the top of the "pyramid" at Huaca Pucllana

Our group had to split in two for the tour, so here is the other group walking up the Huaca.
